Codex: Timeline

2039: Eden Industries is founded, led by billionaire, Eli Eden. The company’s main focus is technology and colonization of the other planets/moons in Earth’s solar system. Over many years the company’s focus also expanded into AI, weapons manufacturing, planetary defence and eventually, terraforming. (His great-great grandson Jacob Eden is the current CEO).

2078: The United Earth Coalition is formed. Earth now has a singular government with representatives from all nations working together. The various militaries across the globe have been amalgamated and now operate under the leadership of the UEC.

2121: A history making discovery is made when Earth locates a network of ancient alien gates scattered throughout the Milky Way. The origin of these gates is a mystery, but their purpose was clear: space travel. Research and development on the technology soon followed in an effort to create Earth’s first stabilized wormhole, since at the time only hibernation methods of space travel were being used. Scientists were able to produce atomic-scale wormholes which lead to the development of FTL communication methods, however it was clear that more research was needed to produce a wormhole capable of transporting a space craft.

2127: First Contact is established with Asura. Initially Humans and Asurians only communicated through one way messages, sending information about their language, anatomy and culture. With time and the use of FTL communications, they were able to speak more directly with one another and over the course of several years, trust began to grow between the two worlds. This exchange of information ultimately led to Earth sharing their discovery of the alien gates with the Asurian people, so that they could help them unlock their secrets.

2135: After years of failed attempts, the first stabilized worm hole was created in Earth’s solar system thanks to the work and cooperation of Human and Asurian scientists. The Gate was named ‘Terra’ and permanently orbits the planet Saturn. The Asurians were able to achieve the same results in their own system and the two species were finally able to meet with one another, face to face.

2157: In a monumental step forward with Human/Asurian relations, an Asurian embassy is established on Mars. The two species are starting to build more trust with one another, but there are detractors on both sides that fear the unknown and despise the idea of the two species integrating.

2157 – 2200: Humans begin expansion outside Earth’s Solar System, new gates are constructed and slowly but surely the galaxy begins to be mapped out, with major trading hubs being established. Several colonies are formed and new races are discovered, Human and Asurian factions begin to dispute over the rate of their expansion and how they are to deal with newly discovered alien worlds. Tensions rise between the two species due to their vastly different view points and ways of life. Humans in general begin to view Asurians as violent brutes, while on the other end Asurians believe humans to be cowards that only care for wealth and their own status. Violent rhetoric is being spewed on both sides, causing the rift between the two species to grow further every day.

2206: After several years of plotting and failed attempts, the Asurian Sovereign, Valus Kalar, is killed by human extremists during a trip to the Martian embassy.

2207: The Asurian Empire retaliates on Earth, inciting a battle that costs the lives of over a million human combatants, devastating the planet, escalating the conflict into a full scale war.

2208: The First Contact War begins.

2208 Onward: Earth and Asura continue fight each other and guard over their expanding territories. As the territories grow, so does the tension between the two species. Human and alien colonies alike begin to receive less protection due to the resources used by the war. Raiders and criminals take advantage and routinely attack the more vulnerable settlements, killing or trafficking the inhabitants. Many prominent colonies such as Akira Nine, once the trading and cultural centre of the galaxy, have been reduced to crime-ridden slums and are considered extremely dangerous to outsiders.

2212: An extremely advanced, secretive species sends their first message to both Earth and Asura. They introduce themselves as Vareliens and reveal that they were the ones that built and abandoned the ancient gates the two species are utilizing over a hundred thousand years ago. They mention that they have been watching both Earth and Asura for several millennia and have noticed that both species are starting to make headway in the galaxy, as clumsily as it is. They warn that the current war is starting to edge too close to their own star system and that both Earth and Asura need to keep to their own territory. To breach Varel’s star system is to do so under threat of complete annihilation.
The message worked as intended, as both Earth and Asura continue to keep their distance, since it was clear the Vareliens were much more advanced and the cost of provoking them was too great for either species to risk. However, on Varel, curiosity began to grow about the other sentient lifeforms and several of the younger citizens left their home world, seeking out adventure. The species’ limited integration has resulted in Varelien technology (while still extremely rare) finding its way to other parts of the galaxy. Their warp and shielding tech in particular are some of the highest priced items on the galactic black market.

2270s: After several decades of subjugation and displacement, victims of the war begin to fight back, forming pockets of resistance across the galaxy. Alien work camps begin to revolt and the two competing worlds start to lose control of the outer colonies.

2280: Funded in secret by a select few influential figures (a Varelien by the name of Vox Arlia, his daughter Eve Arlia and Asurian, Argo Varus), a resistance against the war is formed. They name themselves “Horizon”. Due to the vast amount of displaced colonists and soldiers from the war, they were able to grow their ranks within just a few years. Horizon has now become a force to be reckoned with in their own right, focusing on targeting corrupt and dangerous individuals who profit from the war.

2285: Solus Kalar (son of current Sovereign, Northazul Kalar) forms the Asurian extremist group known as the Shadow Cabal.

2293: Titan Colony T166 is attacked by the Shadow Cabal. The incident is covered up by the UEC in order to not stoke fear about colony life.

2295: Sovereign Northazul Kalar orders the execution of Consul Argo Varus along with his family and affiliates, after discovering his direct involvement with the creation of Horizon.

2304: Battle of Aurora III

2309: Battle of Lavinia
