I still think the two male characters look too alike. Their hair is exactly alike, besides the different colors, and they have the same facial structure. And why is mostly everyone wearing black? Some color in everyone’s gear would make them more visually entertaining.
The background characters are wearing uniforms, council members wear teal and black, agents wear black, and officers wear brown. They are dressed this way because they are in garrison and not out in the field, where they can wear whatever they wish to blend in. Also, you cant even see the other male character on this page, just the back of his head.
I’m sorry you feel this way, but I’m not about to change my character designs at this point. I will say that Rick’s look is going to change later on, the longer he is out of the military and not under their dress regulations (notice the stubble already?).
I just thought I’d try to defend my decisions a little here.
I also think they look alike. It’s not a real problem, it just interrupt the flow of the history when you need to stop and think about who’s who. And a change in characters look wouldn’t be possible at this point, without a good excuse
About the colors: I agree with the dark uniforms. It’s an army, not a fashion magazine. And they help creating the kind of atmosphere this comic has… I think they’re really good, sci-fi comics tend to use uniforms with vibrant colors, and it looks surreal =/
Uniforms are just that “Uniform” and unless they are Dress Uniforms, they are usually made to be functional. They identify one side to the other, a good example of that was the British Red (Redcoats, Lobsterbacks, Bloodies). One thing is that a uniform needs to be relatively cheap, equipping everyone with several pairs can be really expensive.
Now it is in micro-camouflage patterns, color would depend upon the reason for the uniforms. The other thing which is in the near future is the near chameleon patterns, that are in a changeable but set pattern. Like one for desert, snow, jungle, night, ect… but all in the same uniform using enzymes to change the colors. Further still in the future there will be the true chameleon which reflects the color of an object that is nearest to it or even behind it.

who cares the comic is awesome and the art is even better
Third Panel: the same goes to people in dictator countries!
Well, that’s a remarkably understanding boss terrorist guy. Good for him.
With regards to everyone wearing black… why not? Just because they’re an irregular army doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be uniform, and black is always a good all-round colour for not standing out. The muted colour helps build the atmosphere in this comic, I think – rather alike in that respect to BattleStar Glalactica (the new one, not the Book of Space-Mormon).
Would you give it a rest?
