Chapter: 6-Chapter Six

Not to be a stickler for fight coordination, but it would’ve made more sense if Antares blocked with his left hand and countered with his right. You can do that in a much swifter motion than hitting a guy twice with the same hand (and further, rolling said arm into an elbow jab on the second hit). I’m an ass. I know. I’m sorry.

  • http://www.valkyriesquadron.com Jules

I mistyped that. He doesn’t hit twice with the same hand. But he cris-crosses hands which still looks unwieldy.

  • Drew

@Jules I am not sure what you are getting at here. Back when I was in the military my WO taught some of us some Hand to Hand, one of the moves he showed was a disarm. Grab the rifle with one hand and smash in the guys face with the other. Your close enough to do it, I have seen it numerous times.

On this page, Talos grabs the rifle and pushes it up and over, the guy shoots misses obviously, giving Talos more then enough leverage to bring up his other arm to Kill him.

But who am I eh?lol This is just something some of us were taught and I figured I would mention it.

  • Lazy J

@Drew well sir you cant argue with experience and actual military training either way it was an effective and efficent take down of that human poor antares tho now shits really gonna hit the fan

P.S. i hope hes not one of those characters that dies :(

  • Chronx6

@Drew & @Jules : I’m trained in unarmed combat and melee weapon combat and the move is a valid one but in my experience its better to push with the other hand and break the elbow with a sharp blow up with the other. Disables a limb and usually makes them drop the weapon. (And no I haven’t broken the elbow during practice but a sharp blow does the same effect with less damage)

    Either way. Love the comic!

  • Dolten

See, this is better than that silly high kicking manouvres artists seem enjoy putting their fem characters through.

  • lightkeira

@Donlten you meen like the kick on the previous page?

anyone else think this fight scene is like assasins creed? – all politely queued up single file, although I suppose it shows the racial prejudices but still 3v2 or one at a time: silly mercs 😉

also didn’t mister purple have his knife out on the last page? when/why would he put it away?

  • Lefty

Did anyone consider for a second that he might be left handed? I am and I would have punched him with my left.

  • http://www.valkyriesquadron.com Jules

@Chronx6 : I completely forgot about that move, but I know the one you mean. That probably would be the most effective in this situation. Cosigned, sir.

  • Obakeinu

    Sigh, more minion chow.

As to the fight: rifle + ‘close quarters’ + hand-to-hand = short order ass woop’em

…and how on to the main event.

    Ready…Steady…Go!

  • Zakalwe

The start position of the alien is directly infrom of the gun man. He alien moves does a wing movement, and due to that he moves to the right-his deflection options in this case are his right inner-forearm OR left outer-forearm.
In Ninjutsu is is said, and I share that view, when you strike above your elbow, a deflection with your inner forearm is the fastest. now when he strikes he strikes he moves both the left leg and it arm to deliver a powerfull strike.
my only issue is that he strikes high, and it is not easy to use one hand against 2 irrespective of the strenght ratio, and mostly th hand he uses and the position it ends would mean he had to pass the gun throught his chest and puts himself
    in direct line of fire.

Well I suspect that this fella dies and agripa & co, saves his sister and she becomes a fierce supporter of the rebels.

  • Zakalwe

Now let the real fight begin!
Looks like cannon fodder and baits are done.

  • Vuther

@ Jules Your suggestion makes sense, but that is assuming he’s thinking completely logical. It’s possible he got a bit surprised and froze up, responding with the less than optimal push with the right hand, and better remembered his training after the initial push to continue, unfortunately again less than optimally, striking with his oppposite arm. He’s a mere mortal – they make mistakes, of course!

  • Dasick

My complaint with this page is that in panels 2+3 Antares (that’s the bad-ass alien’s name, right?) doesn’t seem to be very dynamic. Just thinking visually how to convey his dashing in panel 2, it would work better if his body made a sharper diagonal – maybe moving his back foot further back and bending his front leg further so that the heel points to the lower left corner of the panel.

For panel 3, I think the sense of motion would be better conveyed if he was shown with his elbow past the thug’s face (moving it closer to the viewing frame), and it would make the strike seem more powerful if he was twisting more (putting his whole weight into the strike).
