Chapter: 1-Chapter One
  • liquidrice

I just found this webcomic. I’m liking the story so far and the art is pretty good. The only thing I don’t get is, when the males are sensibly dressed for battle, why are the females so inadequately armoured? I mean, her stomach is completely exposed. Easy kill, right? Plus, she needs her arms and legs to do any damage to the enemy, but they’re unprotected. Again, otherwise, it’s really good! The whole, needless immodesty bugs me though.

I know where you’re coming from. I designed her that way from a completely aesthetic standpoint, not really taking into consideration realism. I’ll try to keep this suggestion in mind for my future designs.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, though. :)

I really like the new website. And can’t wait for more of the comic!

well, well. I just stumbled across this comic and I’m loving it already. Nice art and an engaging storyline. Keep up the good work

Thanks guys! Glad you’re liking it.

Nicely done – I like the look of this (like the other commenters) and it is nice to see another comix showing a military industrial complex doing what looks like slightly odd things with the citizenship. I also like the idea of aliens with ninja swords, however the truth of these might actually be. I look forward to the rest of this. :sky

About liquidrice’s comment, it also strikes me that perhaps what aliens consider “sexy” would be different to us humans. From what we’ve learnt so far of the Azatoth, they’re fierce, proud warriors. Would wearing of revealing armour, taking into account what humans find sexy, be a kind of sadistic way of laughing at human-kind? After all, she’s playing into their fantasies, while still whooping their butts with unsafe armour on? I dunno, maybe she just is that evil. ^_~

But yeah, I agree. Pointlessly revealing armour, to me anyway, is the kind of cliche that games, film, and comics are filled with. And every time it happens, a bit of my belief in the characters and fantasy world dies. However, if there is a purpose in it, or some reason for it, then… that’s great. ^_^

PS. The human police lady is wearing normal clothes! Yay!! Bonus points!

Well… they do have energy shields, so bare skin isn’t really an issue. The armor is merely a reflection of their culture (a traditional kind of thing.) That’s my reasoning anyway lol.

However, coming from a female perspective, I see what you mean… I’ll keep it in mind for later on, but this character’s design isn’t likely to change.

I would also like to say that, so far, this comic is very good with great art and an easy (so far) to follow and well thought-out plot line. I would, like Liquidrice and Mistaia, to say that the revealing clothing on almost all of the females (mainly BOTH of the leading females) bothers me. Leading off what Liquidrice was saying, that even though the males are dressed heavilly, even a little on the bulky side, the women are wearing low-cut tanks and thin pants. Im not saying that we should all turn feminist and put the girls into five-inch thick body suits, but a little modesty might go a long way, unless the characters’ personality/job/or clothing preferences have her wearing skimpy clothing, in which it is perfectly understandable.
An example would be that while Sara, with her upbringing and dyed hair (I dont know enough about her yet to make any -real- assumptions) might be more likely to wear skimpier clothing, whereas Alexis, who was forced into slavery for a number of years and then joined the military, might be a little more modest, and if not modest with her personal clothing, a little sensible with her uniform/battle/work clothes.
This is all my opinion, and as the artist you have full right to draw the characters as you wish, and I wont even hold the clothing choices against you in the long run (because, they’re really not -that- bad… not as bad as the double-d chested, skimpilly clad heroines of other comics…) but maybe making the females a little less enodowed and a little more modest and you will be doing your female readers a little justice to show how girls are in -reallife- and not the fantasy girls of comics and games.
Despite the above comment, please keep up the awsome work and I -CANT- wait to see more of this story! ^_^

Oh I wanted to add to my earlier comment that there -are- naturally well endowed woman who enjoy showing off what the good lord gave them, and that is there well earned right and even just peachy with me, I just simply get tired of reading comics where all the lead females are gorgous, hour-glass shaped, well endowed females who dont seem to own enough clothing in their closets to cover themselves. It would just be nice that, just once a while, I can have something more in commen with the lead female characters. And being a girl who isnt large chested, doesnt have an hour-glass figure even though fit (which most girls who -are- fit dont really have large chests (look at olympic athletes!)) and who really wouldn’t care to go out facing aliens in really cold space in a spagetti-strapped tanktop and shorts, it makes it difficult to find someone to relate to.
Ok, enough ranting… really im done. XD I dont think I should have drank all that soda earlier… XD

Hm, I hear you and I see where all of you are coming from.

However, I just want to state that the more skimpy outfits (I assume you mean where a belly-button or cleavage is showing?) will be limited to pinups and not interior artwork. Alexis in particular, will be wearing her flight suit for a long while in the beginning, after that I do not intend to dress her in anything skimpy. She is a more reserved individual, so she would be mindful of what she wears.

Sarah on the other hand is a different story, though I should note that she is only intended to be a supporting character. She had a questionable upbringing, and does not make the best choices in life. Her wardrobe reflects that.

That’s pretty much just a long winded version of: The pinup outfits are flashy; the graphic novel interior outfits are more realistic. Also, Female aliens do not count, as they may have cultural differences and may not have the same views on modesty that humans do.

Hopefully that makes sense, I understand where you guys are coming from (after all, I’m a girl too) I know unrealistic proportions and skimpy outfits on female characters can be irritating. I’ll try to keep this view in mind for my future works, I didn’t intend for it to come across that way, but I agree that I should be a little more sensitive to this sort of thing.

After all, I do want girls/women to be able to relate to Lex… so it is important for me to hear this kind of feedback :D.

  • Mystaia

LOL! I can just imagine that half a year down the line, when all the girls are covered up, some guy comes along and says there’s no enough skimpy clothing. 😀 Can’t make everybody happy.

I think, Holly, if the outfit makes sense to you and your world, if it’s there for a reason, it doesn’t matter if it’s skimpy or not. Some girls wear skimpy clothes (I know I do when I go clubbing!), so by all means don’t feel forced to make them cover up for my sake. ^_~

But if you taking into account what an alien species might find sexy and do something creative with it (I dunno, maybe their ears need to be covered up because they’re too sensual or something), then all the more brownie points from me. ^_^

But you’ve got plenty of them already. This comic is great!!

  • admin

Thanks :D, and I don’t mind that you have a different opinion; makes for some interesting discussion. Also, the comic is still rather new, so feedback at this point is essential for progress, and to a certain degree, fan service.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.

About the armor comment, tho I haven’t read all comments except the first one and skimmed the rest. It could be possible she is a warrior who specializes in agility and speed. Meaning she might not require the bulky armor or it might slow her down in a fight. I know some of us have played various games where the armor sacrifices defense to help the fighter attain speed. Just my two cents.

  • Rhetta

I noticed the abundance or comments about the females lack of clothing/armour and just thought I’d say that maybe they just don’t consider humans to be much of a threat, so they don’t feel the need for such things, and comfort is more of a priority.
and now I’ve joined the comment conglomerate, my apologies.

  • Zippomage

I say that any comments trying to impose realistic standards on a fictive environment of any kind are completely unhelpful. It’s fiction. Let the artist do what they want.

  • Meleeman

it’s because she can’t carry as much armor but with less armor means more speed and agility. plus its pointless to wear armor if you have weapons that pierce through it
