Hey everyone!
This will be the last update of 2019, it’s been a pretty hectic year and it seemed to fly right by, but even with all the stress I’m still so grateful for everything I’ve learned.
I think the biggest change in my mindset came from my decision to go back to being a student. I’ve been taking online courses since July and not only has it helped my art a great deal, it’s also helped renew my drive and enthusiasm to create. I decided to face the weaknesses in my art head-on instead of brushing them under the rug and in doing so I finally feel like I’m moving forward instead of spinning in circles. So far I’ve taken the fundamentals of figure and portrait drawing courses and am currently working on an anatomy course. I don’t post a lot of the assignments on social media, as they are quite technical and wouldn’t interest most people, buy I do try to implement the techniques I’ve learned into the comic itself. I am planning on taking a lot more courses (storyboarding, environment/creature design, digital painting, just to name a few), so I’m looking forward to what the future will hold.
In other news, even though I know we’re all knee deep in Chapter 11 at this point, I’ve still been working on the remake of the comic on the side. I made it a point not to do any official art until I have a few more courses under my belt, but I have written a great deal of the script already. While it’s not a retcon, it isn’t a shot for shot remake either, the world/characters are just a lot more fleshed out. I’ll save most of the details for now, I just figured I’d mention that I’m still planning on remaking the comic after this volume (which is still a ways off). I know some of you were wondering what I will do with the current/old version of the comic, at the moment I’m thinking of making a custom html/css website (not a wordpress blog just a regular website) that would host the old pages. I may also look into gumroad or something similar to make pdf’s available for non patrons. Either way, the old comic will still be around in one form or another for you to peruse. 🙂
Which brings me to the new vote incentive, it’s a sketch/concept for a remake volume one poster. This won’t necessarily be the final look of the remake, I just mainly wanted to test my composition skills. Also, you may notice Eve looks quite a bit different in the sketch as I’m currently redesigning the Varelien species. Again, this may not be her final look, I just wanted to test things out. Vote on TopWebComics to check it out!
As for Chapter 11, updates will resume Jan 15th, 2020. I’m currently rebuilding my buffer, so hopefully I will be back on track by then. Until then, Drew and I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! We’re looking forward to sharing more with you all in 2020.
