Hey guys, we’re back with the first page of 2022! It would seem Grey’s not too happy about this turn of events, but David wasn’t about to stick around to get killed or captured, either way, it’s definitely not the last we’ll be seeing of him. This page concludes the fight sequence, It was quite the challenge, but I had a lot of fun working with Drew trying to get it to flow as dynamically as possible while still being somewhat realistic. Turns out having a martial artist around is very handy for fight scenes! Who knew 😛

Another note about this page, Drew and I based David’s flash emitting device on modern non-lethal flash/laser weapons used by the military and police. While those are targeted, David’s is multidirectional, so it covers a wider area. Just figured I’d give you guys a little tidbit on what this tech was based on in case you were interested. It was also the reason I used a green light (which is apparently more blinding to the eye), the fact that it looks cool was just a fringe benefit lol.

In other comic related news, I’m postponing my break. I was originally going to take around 2 months off after posting this page to prep the last ~20 pages of the comic, but I’ve recently learned of a new digital painting course coming out in March that I really want to get in on early (you have a better chance of getting critiqued that way). I am now planning on finishing up the last couple pages of this scene before taking a break sometime mid February (I’ll give an exact date later on). I’m really excited for this course as I’ve felt my digital painting skills have kind of plateaued the past few years and I’d really like to push my stuff to a higher level. I’m still taking my anatomy course and making good progress, but that is a fundamental skill that I’ll likely be working on for the rest of my life, might as well throw some other stuff in there too! 🙂

Anyway, apologies for my rather long post/ramble. Just wanted to keep you guys in the loop.

Thanks for reading!

Holly and Drew.
