Chapter: 3-Chapter Three
  • Ian

Oh, don’t worry! The rock broke her fall!

  • Archwright

Valkyrie? Oh, you big, big nerd. ^_^

  • sirbacon

I fail to see what’s so nerdy about naming the fighters Valkyries.

  • Keeva

Valkyries were women in Norse mythology who rode into battlefields to deliver “honorable” deaths to warriors. The implication is that the fighter jets bring honorable deaths. It’s nerdy in a mythological sort of way. lol

  • Miw-Sher

Ian: that brought “the light fantastic” to my mind…

    Ok totally OT… sorry. ^^

  • Bavette

@Keeva. You got it Half Right.
Valkyries are the common transport ships of the Imperium of Man on the Warhammer 40k universe. Google it up. I guarantee it’s EXTRA nerdy, and herectical.

Now, excuse me. I have a Waaaargh to fight.

  • Dan

Erm… Shouldn’t it be because the transformable mecha FIGHTER PLANES in the Macross / Robotech universe are called Valkyries too?
I’d thought that would be the most nerdy, and the most direct reference. IMHO, Robotech is WAY higher than Warhammer in the nerd stakes.

Actually Keeva is 100% right. They’re called Valkyries in reference to Norse mythology, I haven’t played/seen any of the franchises that the rest of you are talking about.

  • Big Dave

Valkyrie is also a ship in Starcraft: Brood War. It is piloted by a woman.
